This forms the foundation determining the product's ultimate performance and is of paramount importance.
Material Selection and Formulation Design:
Base Rubber Selection: Choose an appropriate rubber type based on the seal's operating environment (e.g., temperature, medium, pressure). Examples include NBR (oil-resistant), EPDM (weather-resistant, steam-resistant), FKM/Viton (high-temperature resistant, chemical-resistant), and SIL (silicone rubber, resistant to both high and low temperatures).
Compound Optimisation: The proportions of additives within the vulcanisation system, reinforcement system, protective system, and plasticising system must be precise. An optimised formulation achieves the finest balance across various properties (such as hardness, tensile strength, elongation, and compression set).
Batch Consistency: Ensuring stable quality across different batches of raw rubber and chemical raw materials is fundamental to guaranteeing consistent final product performance. Mould Design and Machining:
Rational Structure: The design of mould runners, venting channels, and parting lines directly influences rubber filling, venting, and flash formation. Improper design may cause defects such as short shots, bubbles, or excessive flash.
High Precision: Mould machining accuracy directly determines the dimensional accuracy of seals, particularly for products like O-rings with stringent dimensional requirements. Material Selection: Mould steel must possess high hardness, wear resistance, and excellent rust prevention properties.
