Climate and sunlight exposure are the main causes of damage to paints, plastics, inks and other polymers, including loss of light, fading, yellowing, cracking, peeling, brittleness, reduced strength and delamination. Even indoor light and sunlight transmitted through glass windows can cause some materials to age, such as causing fading or discoloration of pigments and dyes. Because solar radiation has a dual role of thermal radiation and photochemical effects, so high-temperature test can not replace the light of the weathering test, pure ultraviolet radiation and infrared radiation can not replace the solar radiation test.

UV test introduction
UV aging belongs to sunlight irradiation aging, UV is the abbreviation of Ultraviolet (ultraviolet), usually used to assess the speed of product aging under ultraviolet light, sunlight irradiation
Sunlight irradiation aging is the main aging damage to materials used outdoors, for indoor use materials, will also be subject to a certain degree of sunlight irradiation aging or artificial light source in the ultraviolet
Aging caused by UV light (such as ultraviolet lamps, fluorescent lamps in the UV band, etc.).
Solar radiation is mainly concentrated in the visible part (0.4 ~ 0.76μm), wavelength greater than the visible infrared ( >0.76um ) and less than the visible ultraviolet ( <0.4μm )
(<0.4μm) of the part of less. In the total radiation energy, wavelengths between 0.15 ~ 4μm accounted for more than 99%, and mainly distributed in the visible region and red, ultraviolet region.
Visible area accounts for about 50% of the total energy of solar radiation, infrared area accounts for about 43%, ultraviolet area of solar radiation energy is very little, accounting for only about 7% of the total.
Ultraviolet light is a general term for the electromagnetic spectrum of wavelengths from 0.01 ~ 0.40 microns radiation, can not cause people's vision. Ultraviolet light is classified as A-rays, B-rays and C-rays
(UVA, UVB and UVC), with wavelengths ranging from 400-315nm, 315-280nm and 280-190nm, respectively.
According to ASTM G154, UV (ultraviolet) cannot simulate the full spectrum of sunlight. It is based on the principle that for durable materials exposed to the outdoors, the UV (ultraviolet) light is not available in the short wavelength range of 300~400nm.
The short wavelength of 300~400nm is the most important cause of aging damage. As can be seen from the figure below, in the short wavelength region of UV, i.e. from 365nm to the lowest wavelength of sunlight, UV fluorescent lamps are the most important cause of aging damage.
UV fluorescent lamps can simulate sunlight very well in the short wavelength region of UV, i.e. from 365nm to the lowest wavelength of sunlight.
