Owing to the uninterruptible nature of shield machine operations, seals must meet exceptionally stringent criteria:
Exceptional pressure resistance: Capable of withstanding water and soil pressures reaching tens of bar.
Outstanding abrasion resistance: Resists wear from abrasive particles such as spoil and grout.
Superior elasticity and adaptability: Compensates for minute gaps and misalignments between components.
Superior resistance to media: withstanding corrosion from lubricants, hydraulic fluids, slurry, chemical grouts, etc.
Broad temperature tolerance: maintaining performance under both high temperatures generated by cutterhead excavation and low underground ambient conditions.
Extended service life and high reliability: must align with the design lifespan of critical components like main bearings, ensuring no replacement is required throughout the entire tunnel project.
