The main way of flame retardant is to slow down the thermal decomposition, blocking the combustion process, specific several flame retardant ways are as follows.
1. Add one or several substances to change the thermal decomposition behaviour of rubber, so that the thermal decomposition temperature of the prepared rubber becomes higher, and reduce the flammable gas produced by decomposition.
2. Adding substances that can produce non-combustible gases when heated, or produce viscous substances that isolate O2, or absorb heat when heated, so that the three elements of combustion (combustible, oxygen, and reach the ignition point) cannot be met.
3. Adding substances that can capture HO-, interrupting the chain reaction and terminating the flame propagation.
4. Change the structure or nature of the rubber molecular chain to improve the thermal decomposition ability or make itself flame retardant. Because of the good compatibility between rubber and various additives, it is still the best way to add various kinds of flame retardants.
